The Perfect Employee

by: Bill Medica - 05/19/09

What I have come to learn in the almost four years that On Motion Media has been in existence is that the perfect employee is, in fact, not an employee at all. While they are by definition, their attitudes are not those of typical employees. Anyone who sees his or herself as an employee, a nine-to-fiver, a cog in a wheel will never be a good fit for us. We have worked for four years to build the perfect team of perfect employees. The one thing that everyone who works at OMM shares is a strong belief in the company; that we are among the best at what we do, that the company is each of ours, and that everything each of us does contributes to its growth and success.

How did we achieve this? How did we find the perfect employees? The fact is we didn’t find them. Instead, we helped them discover great potential in themselves, to see in themselves something more than just being an employee. It came with a lot of trial and error, and a lot of bruised egos. Ultimately it came by creating an environment of total transparency and by putting in place the right people who would thrive in such an environment. At OMM, we discuss everything in an open forum from how to best service the client to cash projections and cash flow. We insist that everyone understand how their work helps bring success to each project, how it helps build the company, and how it affects the bottom line. And most importantly we hammer home that if the company is successful, then everyone will be successful.
